LOCALITY

Located on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills between Wells and Weston Super Mare, Cheddar Village and Cheddar Gorge today provides both shopping and leisure opportunities. Cheddar Village, linked by Cheddar Gorge to the Mendip Hills, is an ideal centre for a holiday. Not only are there many things to do and see in the surrounding area but also many things of interest both in the village and nearby.
For the active visitor the Cheddar village has a leisure centre, riding stables, fishing, golf driving range, and sailing activities are available nearby. Climbing, potholing and caving are also popular local pastimes.


CHELMS COMBE QUARRY

The Ford family ceased working the quarry in the 1950's and by the 1980's the site had a new lease of life as a Tower Testing Station operated by the CEGB and employing a 100 or so people. Up until 1990 the site was used for testing canisters to contain radioactive materials and was most recently occupied by a company specialising in acoustic materials.

SITE STRATEGY

The site was bought by the existing owners in 2008 with a view to exploiting the sites obvious natural attributes as a potential extreme sports centre, catering for climbers cavers potholers abseilers and all other adrenaline charged activities. The lower part of the site includes a range of former light industrial buildings that are effectively self contained and are thus being offered to let on flexible lease terms to uses that will not compromise the owners vision for the balance of the site.
